Design that survives real use

An interface is judged by a tired user, in a hurry, with the sun in their eyes. Not on a presentation screen.

We work mostly on operational software: tools somebody uses for eight hours to do their job. There, design is not decoration; it is the difference between a two-click task and a nine-click one.

We design alongside the engineering team, not before it. A beautiful flow the system cannot sustain is wasted time for everyone.

What it includes

  • Research with real users in their working context
  • Flow mapping and information architecture
  • Navigable prototypes to validate before building
  • Design system with components and usage rules
  • Final interface delivered with the behaviour specification
  • Accessibility considered from design, not patched at the end
  • Post-launch usage measurement to correct with data

How we do it

Observe before proposing

Before drawing anything we sit and watch how the work is done today. Most improvements show up there, not in an ideation session.

Prototype the risky parts

We do not prototype everything: we prototype what would be expensive to get wrong in development. The rest is settled directly in implementation.

A system, not screens

We deliver components and rules, so screen number forty can be assembled by the team without asking design again.

When it makes sense

  • The product works but people do not use it as expected
  • Every new screen looks different from the previous ones
  • Support keeps receiving the same questions
  • An internal tool everybody complains about is being rebuilt
  • A product has to launch and there is no visual language of your own
